A special thanks goes out to my dear friend and superb musician Nathen Aswell for being the guest writer on my blog today. He not only inspires and heals with his inspirational music but he is one of the kindest, most authentic loving souls I’ve had the good fortune to meet. His interview with me on the New Pathway To Healing radio show was one of the most popular! If you missed it, feel free to download it here.
I played several of his favorite selections that left me mesmorized! His CD, “Little By Little” is fabulous, inspirational and uplifting! It’s available here.
Open Wide The Floodgates!
Hi Everyone –
Warm greetings and blessings to you all!
May you be filled with lovingkindness.
May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer dangers.
May you be well in body and mind.
May you be at ease and happy.
Last year, my wife Sheila and I bought a float home: a 2,000 sq. ft. 3-story house that floats in the Fraser River (in Delta BC, Canada, 30 minutes south of Vancouver). As I travel more and more, my appreciation for my relationship with Sheila and for our magnificent floating home grows; both truly are grounding me AND teaching me to live “in the flow” – and I am very, very grateful to be able to live in the middle of that delicious paradox.
And so – feeling both grounded and in the flow – I’m ready for something new.
I often perform in New Thought Centers/Churches, so I made a decision at the beginning of this year to dive more deeply into their philosophy. I’ve started reading Ernest Holmes’ “The Science Of Mind”, and these words from it are exciting me:
“Here and now, we are surrounded by, and immersed in, an Infinite Good. How much of this Infinite Good is ours? ALL OF IT! And how much of It may we have to use? AS MUCH OF IT AS WE CAN EMBODY.”
WOW! NO LIMITS!
Is this possible for a guy who grew up in a working class/middle class family with a strong sense of LACK (i.e., taught to believe that there wasn’t enough of anything – money, food, time, space, etc)?
Since the beginning of this year, I’ve been “trying this on” – inspired by Holmes’ words, my new mantra has been “open wide the floodgates” – and truly amazing things are happening within me and around me with ease and grace. Within me, a deep sense of calm and purpose; around me, an ever-increasing number of people with whom to create music and places to perform it.
Again, from “The Science Of Mind”: “If we are to PROVE… statements to be facts in our experience, we shall be compelled to do more than ANNOUNCE A PRINCIPLE, no matter how true it may be”.
SO… I’m out to prove that I can embody ALL of the Infinite Good.
I’ve set a challenge for myself: to write a new chant AND a new song every month, so that I’ll have TWO new CDs to share with the world by the end of this year!!!
Life is an adventure, so I’m going to keep saying YES to this “experiment” and see what happens!
How about YOU? Wanna try living without limits? Wanna say YES and “open wide the floodgates”? What’s YOUR dream? What challenge would YOU like to set for yourself this year? I’d truly like to know, so please e-mail me at NathenAswell@me.com and share your thoughts and feelings with me; we’re ALL in this together, and we have much to learn from each other.
Much love to you all,
P.S. If you’d like to continue this conversation and “keep tabs” on my songwriting progress, please visit the “Home” page of my web site, www.NathenAswell.com, and become a member of my mailing list. I’ll send you my monthly newsletter, as well as a free mp3 of one of my songs every month. (This month’s offering is a fun(ky) tune called “I Say Yes”.) Go with Love!
