A New Beginning: The Promise of Change
The cycle of change is not unlike the cycle of the seasons. Changes in the air herald the approaching fall as the days become colder and windier. The leaves change colors to scarlet, orange and brilliant gold as the days shorten. The branches that were once nestled under thick leaves become more visible with each passing day.
In the significant changes in your life, like marriage, a new baby, blending families, relocation, divorce, illness, loss, being laid off and bankruptcy, you go through a predictable cycle of emotions and experiences. You see things that were a part of you, begin to change and fall away until you stand in your own exposed truth that urges you to go within and examine the meanings.
In the long dark nights of winter, the naked trees bear the heaviness of the snow, their life force focused inward. With great change, your essence remains the same but your life as you knew it ends. You can see yourself without the distraction of the leaves. You feel the overwhelming emotions that weigh you down like the snow on the trees and you are forced to move your energies inward to cope. When you are in the breakdown stages of a change, your focus is to survive and your best option is to care for yourself and loved ones physically and emotionally.
This time of quiet darkness can be a gift, giving you time and space to look within. Allow expression to your emotions and seek support. Stay quiet with your thoughts and feelings and permit them to give you the gift of new perception. When you let the truth inside you enter your awareness, the Light within begins to thaw the snow and blossom into spring. The prize is the longer days where warming sun melts the ice. The promise of new life fills the air. The birds sing again on the branches, covered with new buds. The life force is directed outward pushing new life into the world.
The promise of change is a new beginning, a new chance at realization of your authentic expressions. You emerge from the winter hibernation, hungry for the fulfillment of new ideas, projects, and relationships. As you begin to imagine yourself in new scenarios, you shift your energy back into the world of action. The energy of new possibilities fuels your actions with hope, and you begin to put out tender leaves again with new understanding of who you are and what you have to offer. The stage is set for the new growth, watered by the spring rain, to mature, blossom and begin to fruit as the warm summer approaches. The hard work is done. It’s now time to enjoy the fruits.
As a native in any land, you learn the rhythm of the seasons; the gifts and the challenges. To thrive in change, you must learn the patterns and requirements of each stage. Change Thrivers know what to do, who to depend on and how to welcome each season. Beyond the knowledge of the change cycle, the secret to thriving is to equip yourself with the support, the understanding and the techniques that will help you make the change work for you. The rewards are unimaginable.
